An ILUMA PRIME vs Standard vs ONE decision looks like a three-way choice about flavour, but it is not. All three devices heat the same TEREA stick with the same SMARTCORE induction system, so the tobacco tastes the same whichever body you buy. What changes is the shape of the hardware, the way the battery is managed, the interface you use to start a session, and the price you pay in the UAE. The ILUMA i ONE is a single-piece unit at AED 140, the ILUMA i STANDARD is a two-piece holder-and-charger kit at AED 265, and the ILUMA i PRIME is the aluminium, touchscreen flagship at AED 340. This guide puts the three side by side on the points that genuinely differ, prices every colour and limited edition stocked in Dubai right now, and closes with a straight recommendation for each type of buyer.
What each of the three models is
Start with the naming, because the range holds two generations and the titles overlap. The original ILUMA generation introduced induction heating and ran as the ILUMA ONE, the ILUMA and the ILUMA PRIME. The i-series is the current generation and runs as the ILUMA i ONE, the ILUMA i STANDARD and the ILUMA i PRIME. In this catalogue the shelf is almost entirely i-series, with two original-generation limited editions still available: the ILUMA PRIME Stardrift at AED 370 and the ILUMA Stardrift at AED 300.
ILUMA i ONE. One piece, with no separate holder and no pocket charger. The stick goes into the top of the same body that holds the battery, you press the button, and the whole unit goes back in your pocket when the session ends. It is the smallest and lightest route into induction heating, and in the UAE it is also the cheapest at AED 140, in Blue, Lime Green, Midnight Black and Violet.
ILUMA i STANDARD. Two pieces: a holder that you actually puff, and a pocket charger that refills the holder between sessions. You carry both, but the part that reaches your mouth stays small and light, and the charger keeps another session ready while you are out. It sells at AED 265 in Leaf Green, Midnight Black, Orange, Violet and Calm Light Blue.
ILUMA i PRIME. Also two pieces, but built to a different standard: anodized aluminium body, a touchscreen instead of indicator lights, and the FlexPuff and FlexBattery features that the rest of the range does not carry. It sells at AED 340 in Aspen Green, Breeze Blue, Garnet Red and Midnight Black.
All three are TEREA devices. None accepts HEETS, none has a blade to clean, and none needs a cleaning routine between sessions beyond a wipe of the holder opening. If you are coming from a blade device, that is the single biggest practical change, and it is identical across the three.
Body, battery, puffing and display compared
The table below collects the differences that matter in daily use. Treat the charge times as published ILUMA-generation figures rather than a claim about any one finish or edition.
| Model | Form | Interface | Published charge time | Signature feature | From (AED) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| ILUMA i ONE | Single piece | Button and indicator | 1 hour 30 | Smallest body, nothing extra to carry | 140 |
| ILUMA i STANDARD | Holder plus pocket charger | Button and indicator | 2 hours 15 | Small holder, spare session in the charger | 265 |
| ILUMA i PRIME | Holder plus pocket charger | Touchscreen | 2 hours 15 | FlexPuff, FlexBattery, anodized aluminium | 340 |
Body. The ONE is the only model you can hold and charge as one object, which is why it wins on pocketability. The two-piece kits separate the weight: the holder is what you lift to your mouth, and the charger sits in a bag or a jacket pocket. The i PRIME adds metal to that holder, so it feels denser and cooler in the hand than the i STANDARD, which uses a lighter finish. None of this changes the draw.
Battery. The architecture, not the cell, is the real difference. A two-piece kit has two batteries working as a team: the pocket charger holds enough for several holder refills, and the holder itself only has to survive one session at a time. A single-piece device carries everything in one shell, so the whole body has to hold charge for the day. It is also why heavy users tend to drift toward a two-piece kit after a year, even though the ONE is the easier device to start with.
Puffing. FlexPuff, exclusive to the i PRIME in this range, adapts the session to how you are puffing instead of cutting you off on a fixed count. If you draw steadily, the session runs its course; if you puff in bursts, the device responds to that pattern. The practical effect is fewer sessions that end while you are still going. The i STANDARD and i ONE run the standard session, which is fixed and predictable. Neither is better in the abstract; the fixed session is easier to plan around, and the adaptive one is more forgiving.
Display. The i PRIME’s touchscreen shows session state and lets you change settings on the device itself. The other two communicate through an indicator light and haptic feedback, which is enough for daily use but tells you less. If you like knowing exactly how much charge is left in numbers rather than in bars, that is the honest reason to pay for the PRIME. If you never look at your device between sessions, it is money spent on something you will not use.
Charging. The published figures are 1 hour 30 for the ILUMA ONE and 2 hours 15 for the ILUMA PRIME and the standard two-piece ILUMA. The pattern carries into the i-series, and the practical takeaway is simple: charge overnight and the difference disappears. It only matters if you are the sort of buyer who tops up for twenty minutes before leaving the house.
The UAE price ladder, edition by edition
Three base prices, then three parallel ladders of special editions. The table lists every ILUMA body currently stocked, per device, in AED.
| Model | Edition or colour | Price (AED) |
|---|---|---|
| ILUMA i ONE | Blue, Lime Green, Midnight Black, Violet | 140 |
| ILUMA i ONE | Electric Purple | 315 |
| ILUMA i ONE | Remix Limited Edition | 315 |
| ILUMA i STANDARD | Leaf Green, Midnight Black, Orange, Violet, Calm Light Blue | 265 |
| ILUMA i STANDARD | Electric Purple | 350 |
| ILUMA i STANDARD | Remix Limited Edition | 500 |
| ILUMA i PRIME | Aspen Green, Breeze Blue, Garnet Red, Midnight Black | 340 |
| ILUMA i PRIME | Electric Purple | 450 |
| ILUMA i PRIME | Remix Limited Edition | 950 |
| ILUMA PRIME | Stardrift Limited Edition | 370 |
| ILUMA | Stardrift Limited Edition, deep blue and gold | 300 |
Read the ladder in two ways. Across the standard colours, the step from ONE to STANDARD is AED 125 and the step from STANDARD to PRIME is AED 75, so the two-piece upgrade is cheaper at the top than at the bottom. Across the editions, the same hardware costs roughly double or more: an i ONE in Electric Purple is AED 315 against AED 140 in Blue, and the i PRIME Remix is AED 950 against AED 340. Nothing inside those shells is different. You are paying for finish and scarcity, and that is a legitimate purchase if you want the object, but it is not an upgrade in performance.
Note the two original-generation editions. The ILUMA PRIME Stardrift at AED 370 is the older PRIME body in a limited finish, and it sits only AED 30 above the i PRIME’s standard price. The ILUMA Stardrift at AED 300 is the original-generation body in a deep blue and gold finish. Both take the same TEREA sticks and both heat identically; the i-series simply adds the newer interface and battery features. At those prices the choice between a Stardrift PRIME and an i PRIME in a standard colour is about which one you want to look at.
Which one to buy, by type of user
First device, or a gift for someone new to heated tobacco. The ILUMA i ONE at AED 140. One object, one button, no charger to lose, and the lowest cost of entry in the range. If the person does not take to it, the money at risk is small. The ONE is also the right answer for anyone who wants a second device for travel, because there is nothing separate to pack.
Daily user who wants the least friction. The ILUMA i STANDARD at AED 265. The holder stays light, the charger carries the day, and charging is a background task rather than a decision. This is the value point in the range: you get the two-piece architecture that heavy users actually prefer for AED 125 more than the ONE, and you give up only the touchscreen and the adaptive session.
Buyer who wants the flagship and will use its features. The ILUMA i PRIME at AED 340. Anodized aluminium, touchscreen, FlexPuff and FlexBattery for AED 75 over the i STANDARD. On a like-for-like basis that is the best value jump in the range, provided you care about the interface. If you do not, the i STANDARD does the same job.
Collector or gift buyer. One of the limited editions. The Electric Purple and Remix versions exist to be owned as objects: the i ONE Remix at AED 315, the i STANDARD Remix at AED 500, the i PRIME Remix at AED 950, or the Stardrift pair at AED 370 and AED 300. Buy one because you like it, not because you expect a better session.
Buyer who wants TEREA compatibility for less than an ILUMA. The Lambda i8 and i9 at AED 200 each. Both are TEREA-compatible heaters with their own design rather than an ILUMA body, and the i8 comes in six colours. They are a legitimate alternative in the same price territory as the i STANDARD, and they take the same sticks.
Two profiles should not buy the cheapest option. If you go through several sessions a day away from a charger, the ONE’s single battery will feel like a constraint by mid-afternoon, and the i STANDARD will save you the annoyance for AED 125. And if you already own a two-piece kit you like, replacing it with a ONE is a downgrade in battery architecture even though it is an upgrade in portability.
All three use exactly the same TEREA sticks
This is the part that makes the decision cheaper than it looks. TEREA is a sealed stick heated by induction, and every ILUMA body in the table above drives the same stick in the same way. A pack bought for an i ONE works in an i STANDARD, an i PRIME, a Stardrift edition, or a Lambda i8 or i9. The reverse is also true: a stick bought with an expensive device is not a different product.
TEREA packs hold 20 sticks and cartons hold 200. In the UAE, packs run from AED 120 at the value origins to AED 205 for Japanese blends, so a carton costs between AED 1,200 and AED 2,050. That matters to the device decision in a way buyers often miss: at AED 205 a pack, one carton of Japanese TEREA costs more than any ILUMA in this range except the two most expensive Remix editions. The device is a one-off; the sticks are the recurring bill.
HEETS is the other side of the line. It is built for blade devices such as the IQOS 3 DUO, has no sealed element for induction, and will not work in any ILUMA. The full explanation of why is in the TEREA for ILUMA guide.
Is the PRIME worth the extra money?
At AED 75 over the i STANDARD, yes, if you will use the screen and the adaptive session. At AED 200 over the i ONE, the answer depends on whether you want a two-piece kit at all: the PRIME’s premium is mostly the price of entering the two-piece category, with the screen and metal on top.
Run the arithmetic on what else AED 200 buys. It is one carton of value-origin TEREA, or a pack of Japanese TEREA every week for a month. Buyers who are honest about their budget usually find that the i STANDARD plus a steady supply of sticks delivers more satisfaction than the i PRIME plus a thinner supply. Buyers who have already settled their stick budget should take the PRIME, because the FlexPuff session is the one feature in this range that changes how the device behaves rather than how it looks.
What the PRIME does not buy: a different taste, a longer session per stick, better vapour, or compatibility with anything other than TEREA. If any seller tells you the flagship produces a stronger hit, that is not how induction works. The heat profile is set by the stick and the coil, and both are the same across the range.
UAE prices, delivery and the 18+ handover
Every figure on this page is the price you pay at checkout, in AED, with UAE tobacco excise and VAT already inside it. There is no separate tax line and no Emirate-level variation, so an i PRIME costs the same in Dubai, Sharjah or Fujairah apart from delivery.
Delivery in Dubai runs 60 to 120 minutes from confirmation, with immediate dispatch and no minimum order value. Every other Emirate is same-day on orders placed before 1 PM and next-day after that, covering Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah, Umm Al Quwain and Al Ain. The fee is AED 30 flat and free over AED 499, which a Standard or PRIME device order clears on its own; an i ONE plus one pack of sticks reaches AED 260 and carries the fee. Cash on delivery works in all seven Emirates with no surcharge, alongside card on delivery, card online and bank transfer.
The rider checks ID before taking payment. The UAE minimum age is 18 under Federal Law No. 15 of 2009 and Wadeema’s Law, and every handover is verified with a valid Emirates ID or passport. Check the box before cash changes hands: a sealed device, the right colour, and the charger and cable present in two-piece kits. Anything wrong is exchanged or refunded under the returns policy.
Frequently asked questions
Is the ILUMA PRIME better than the Standard?
It is better equipped, not better performing. The i PRIME adds an anodized aluminium body, a touchscreen, FlexPuff and FlexBattery for AED 75 more than the i STANDARD at AED 265. Both use the same SMARTCORE induction system and the same TEREA sticks, so the tobacco tastes identical and the session length per stick is the same. The PRIME earns its price if you will use the screen and the adaptive puffing; if you will not, the i STANDARD is the better buy.
Which ILUMA is best for a first-time buyer?
The ILUMA i ONE at AED 140. It is a single unit with no separate holder or charger to manage, it charges in the published 1 hour 30 figure, and it takes the same TEREA sticks as the flagship. The one caveat is battery architecture: if you will use it several times a day away from a charger, the two-piece i STANDARD at AED 265 keeps a spare session ready and is the more comfortable long-term choice.
Do all three models use the same TEREA sticks?
Yes. The i ONE, i STANDARD and i PRIME, the Stardrift editions and the Lambda i8 and i9 all take TEREA. A pack of 20 works in any of them, and a carton of 200 works out cheaper per stick. None of them takes HEETS, which is built for blade devices such as the IQOS 3 DUO and has no sealed element for induction heating.
How long does each model take to charge?
The published ILUMA-generation figures are 1 hour 30 for the ILUMA ONE and 2 hours 15 for the ILUMA PRIME and the standard two-piece ILUMA. In practice the difference only shows up if you top up in short bursts; charged overnight, all three are ready for a full day. Two-piece kits also let you use the holder while the pocket charger is plugged in, which removes most of the waiting.
Why do the limited editions cost so much more?
Finish and scarcity, not performance. The i ONE Remix is AED 315 against AED 140 in Blue, the i STANDARD Remix is AED 500 against AED 265, and the i PRIME Remix is AED 950 against AED 340. The internals are the same, the sticks are the same and the session is the same. Buy a limited edition because you want that object, and treat any claim that it heats differently as a sales line.
Can I use HEETS in an ILUMA device?
No. HEETS is pierced by a blade in older IQOS devices and has no sealed metal element, so an ILUMA has nothing to heat by induction. Putting a HEETS stick in an ILUMA will not produce a session, and forcing it can damage the holder opening. TEREA is the only stick line for this hardware, apart from the TEREA-compatible Lambda heaters.
